Kid of the Day

Do your kids constantly fight about the same things?  Who gets to pick the show? Who gets to sit in one particular seat at the kitchen counter? Who gets to go first at something?  Ever since my middle guy turned about 3 we’ve been having a lot of this in our family.  And frankly… it drives me totally nuts!

I got the idea from my Grandma to have a “Kid of the Day” – she did this with my dad and his 3 siblings.  In our house, one kid gets this honor each day, and that kid wins all those arguments and any other new ones that sprout unexpectedly.  Like who gets to sit closest to the bath faucet in the tub…

I keep track of this via our family’s gmail calendar and Alexa actually announces it every morning during her morning routine.

But I cannot tell you how successful this has been for our family.  The kids are totally bought into it – they hardly ever push back on the Kid of the Day’s decision making power.  And when they do, I simply remind them that it’ll be their day tomorrow and they are always satisfied with that explanation.

So if this is something that your family struggles with, give it a try!
